Charms, specifically the assortment of fruit-flavored hard candies produced by the Charms Candy Company (founded in 1912), became a staple of U.S. military rations for over 60 years, beginning in World War II. While initially intended as a high-energy morale booster in K-rations, they gained a reputation as the "Unlucky Charms" during the 1990s and early 2000s, leading to their removal from Meals, Ready-to-Eat (MREs) in 2007.
